Life course medicine
Life course medicine to me is about navigating through different stages of life to achieve a reasonably well health and longevity.
What is best for a man in his 30s might be looking into optimising his lifestyle so that he could lead a full and functional life thereafter.
For a woman in her 50s and start to have high blood pressure, she would need to start looking into options of medications, and other aspects of her metabolism.
There are also theroies about some of what we experience during early years (as babies or children) could lead to life-long biological changes.
It is not about preventing one or few diseases. It is also not about marketing one or few foods, nutrition, or tablets, but look at life at a broader scope.
For me it is a modest, chess-like approach. Incremental changes can be made through small breakthrough discoveries.
Insight generation
This requires a lot of 'descriptive epidemiology' to generate large-scope insights, but this type of work is not usually appreciated in grant application, job applications, or scientific journals.
In collaboration with Yi-Fang Chuang I am very glad to launch
Prescribing in Taiwan, an insight generation database for everyone to know how much each drug has been prescribed in Taiwan for people at different age and sex group.
Please get in touch if you would like to contribute to the cause.
